This task needs even greater organization when there are several aircraft in multiple locations, as the captures need to occur simultaneously to ensure a successful operation. National Maritime Services (“NMS) recently performed such a synchronized effort with the recovery of five aircraft at two locations, working closely with the U.S. Marshals Service to execute a writ of attachment relating to a creditor’s federal judgment. NMS was engaged to provide recovery and custody services by Akerman Senterfitt, the creditor’s law firm. The company was responsible for discreet tracking and then confirming final location of the assets, assisting in the execution the attachment and relocating the aircraft to secure storage facilities. The company is also providing ongoing maintenance and security for the assets. “The complexity of this operation and the value of the assets at risk, according to Alan Swimmer, president of NMS, “placed a premium on communication between all the parties involved. Our team did a superb job coordinating a lot of moving parts. During this assignment, the following five aircraft were recovered: Saab-Fairfield 340A, Cessna 208B, Cessna T207A, Piper PA-34-200T and an older Cessna P206. “This was an important case, says Eyal Berger of Akerman Senterfitt, “and NMS delivered by paying close attention to the details that are paramount to success. We depended upon them to collaborate with multiple people while closely following the law. NMS provides aircraft, yacht and commercial ship recovery, custody and resale services designed to assist lenders, attorneys and government agencies worldwide. The firm assists parties that have past due claims and other liens against aircraft and vessels. In addition to performing this role in civil matters, NMS is an official aircraft and vessel subcontractor for VSE—performing work for the United States Department of Treasury and other governmental agencies such as the US Department of Justice, in connection with the US Marshals Service, and various international and local state agencies such as the Bahamian Government and Broward County Sheriff’s Office.
